Following an incredible display of skill at the event’s qualifiers (leaving even the Captain of the Drone Racing Team impressed), Cadet Corporal Sanderson took on his next challenge –�� the Australian Army Cadet Drone Racing Nationals.�� After only starting his drone racing journey at the beginning of the year, it was clear that drones were Lewis’ calling.�� Taking home the title of Army Cadets Champion at his first competition, the International Drone Racing Competition at Avalon Air Show in Melbourne, Lewis has and continues to wow the Australian Defence Force with his capabilities and passion in this field.

Northpine couldn’t be more proud of Lewis and look forward to continuing to follow his Drone Racing journey.

Personally, it is a humble pleasure for me to be given the privilege to lead Northpine Christian College in 2023. I am so grateful for the efforts of Mr Graham Baird and all those who have built the house, loved it and guided it over many years to become the place that it is now. My 3 children are also super excited to join the NCC student body and can’t wait to be an active part of this community.

I thank you for inviting me and my family into this incredible school community and can’t wait to get to know you and serve with you.

With this exciting new chapter comes change and at times change can be a little scary for us. But we are reminded in the Bible in 2 Timothy 1:7 that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and of sound judgement.” For those of us who have apprehensions about the future, this is wonderful news.

As we look into the future, let us also not forget the past and the way that God has led us. Ellen White, the Seventh-Day Adventist Church founder, says, ‘we have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history’.

The point? As we drive forward into 2023, don’t forget to look in the rear vision mirror once and a while. Don’t forget to look at your journey, your story, your walk with Jesus our Saviour. How are you going on the journey? Need help, or are you in a place whereby you can now help others?

My hope and prayer for you is that we stay close to each other, build each other up and together, give thanks and praise to God.

May the good Lord bless us and keep us as together we humbly serve Him and I look forward to what we can achieve together in 2023!

Though all are worthy of��congratulations, there are a few pupils who deserve a special mention and commendation.��Stephen Wize Mondia was recognised by QCAA with a Certificate of Academic Commendation for achieving 6 A grades in General Subject Courses.�� Our 2022 School Captain, Eilidh Meighan, was recognised by QCAA with a Subject Achievement Commendation for her perfect 100% score in Year 12 General English. Her result puts her in the top 1% of the state.

In addition, students such as��Hayley Bess,��who completed her studies with 4As & 1B,��Demiana Ibrahim with 3As & 2Bs,��Stella Laws with 3As & 3Bs,��Ethan Haley with 3As & 2 Bs��and others whose ATAR results are also high further��reflect the strong academic standing of our school.�� More importantly,��such outcomes��allow many of our students to take up their places as undergraduates at university.�� We look forward to hearing about their many successes and achievements to come!

The day was sunny and warm however the breeze and shade from the surrounding bush made hiking more comfortable. There were four groups on four different tracks towards the campsite all with a steady descent into the valley. Each group experienced both on track and off-track conditions in their descent and climb out the next day. One group came across large rock pools and enjoyed a swim.

Careful bearings and map reading were required to reach the destination. Blue Gum Flats is a beautiful open grassy area, with scattered tall and stately Blue Gums. After sunset we were treated to a rare event of fireflies, hundreds of tiny lights flying through the bush was a beautiful sight. Our evening devotion on not giving up highlighted the story of ‘Eric the Eel’ a competitor in the Sydney 2000 Olympics.�� Another ‘Bluey’ story was shared to conclude the evening!

The walk out challenged each of the groups, testing the combination of pack weight and fitness level with large hills to climb. One group spent time enjoying the natural pools and waterfalls with a refreshing swim and rest.

All four teams completed the expedition successfully and demonstrated skills in navigation and bushwalking.

To commemorate R U OK? day our School Counsellor Monique Robertson spoke with our Middle and Senior Students during chapel about how to check in with our friends and start meaningful conversations.

Monique spoke about how these four steps and a conversation could change a life.

Our wonderful P & F Committee donated branded Kit Kats for each of our secondary students which were given out at the end of chapel.

During the Term 2 holiday break, 3 teams of enthusiastic Year 10-12 Northpine students volunteered their time to serve 4 rural Queensland town communities.�� Alongside a crew of Northpine alumni and ‘Refresh Church’ youth, over 100 students, young adults and staff travelled hundreds of kilometers to the small towns of Surat, Injune, Monto and Eidsvold.

This unique opportunity was made possible through the service initiative, STORM Co.�� STORM Co stands for ‘Service To Others Really Matters’ and is a unique school trip with the sole focus of serving others with no strings attached – a present-day application of Jesus’ biblical example. With service at the core of their mission, these teams sought to build genuine relationships with their local communities while also listening and learning from them. They achieved this through the Kidz Club program, a place for local children to come and learn about Jesus through songs and activities, as well as community maintenance projects.�� Each community was receptive, touched and thankful for the STORMCo teams.

Through this experience, students not only built connections with their communities, but also with their fellow STORM Co teammates. Teams became ‘families.’ Students were encouraged to challenge themselves to learn new skills, lead groups, meet people and give humbly of themselves. Each day was opened and closed in worship with staff sharing personal testimonies about how God has impacted their lives.

Every staff member, student and young adult who accepted the invitation to join one of the STORM Co trips made a difference in another’s life and from this we believe the experience has made a difference in our own lives too.�� We look forward to returning to these towns next year and continuing to build on the relationships formed.

One of the core values of Chaplaincy at Northpine is to develop true disciples of Jesus. By the time a student has graduated from Year 12, we strive to ensure they have had the opportunity to meet Jesus, make a decision to follow Him in a saving relationship, develop discipleship skills to share Jesus through actions and words, and had opportunities to put these values into practice. Northpine endeavours to give every student an opportunity to be prepared and experienced to change the world one life at a time.

The different schools who attended the NEXT GEN GLS day were able to follow up in different ways. For 20 of the Northpine students, this follow up involved boarding a bus and spending a couple of days at Camp Somerset, for what was titled “World Changers Leadership Camp.” During the weekend students were able to process and reaffirm what they had learnt, further developing their discipleship abilities. This was the next step from the Week of Worship held earlier in the year with a similar theme “World Changers.” This theme has been inspired by Pr Nick Kross from the SPD Youth Department.

A comment from one of the senior students at Northpine, Brooke Howard, demonstrates how much joy it brings when we are able to team up with God, work through His power and see the possibilities of change amongst people we touch.

“Our world changers leadership camp was so so good. I loved connecting with people that I don’t talk to very often and getting to know more about them. I also really liked how we were able to expand on what we heard on Friday and talk about how that is relevant to our school and how we can apply what we have learnt. I really think this [has] definitely made an impact on everyone who was there, and I really hope that we can follow through with all that we planned.��Thank you again [to the chaplaincy team] for making this camp happen. It was so so good and eye opening to the possibilities of what we can do at Northpine, so a HUGE thank you …”

We pray these students will not sit back and wait for “the next program” to arrive or for someone to offer them a “better Christian experience”, but instead choose to step up and be leaders in their communities. We hope that they continue to reach out to God daily, seeking opportunities to be “World Changers” changing one life at a time.
